The
Uncommon Woman: Making an Ordinary Life
Extraordinary
(Moody
Publishing)
By Susie Larson
Deep
within our souls is a longing to be an
uncommon woman. We are noble
creatures with a great capacity for honor,
conviction, and compassion. We have within
us a strength that can weather storms, a
courage that compels us to make a
difference, and the living Christ who daily
works in us to make us more like Him. We’re
all different but the same. We all hurt on
occasion. We’ve all thrown a spear and we’ve
been hit a few times. We’ve said one thing
and done another. And we’ve had our heroic
moments when no one was watching.
Do you long to rise up the petty behaviors
that are familiar to most women?
The uncommon woman believes the the
wonderful truth about herself. Moreover, she
has the capacity to view others from this
same heavenly perspective. Bursting from her
heart is the conviction to do something
about the injustices in her world. She walks
with a purity that allows her to see God
everywhere. And the Kingdom of God is so
strong in her life that everywhere she
places her feet suddenly becomes an uncommon
and holy place – because she’s there.
You can be that woman. You were meant to be
that woman.
Review:
The Uncommon
Woman: Making an Ordinary Life Extraordinary
takes a look at the ways in which women can
lead God centered, extraordinary lives.
Larson delves into several important traits
that are characteristic of the godly,
uncommon woman, among them humility,
perseverance, mercy and truth. She also
looks at issues every woman struggles with,
such as gossip and fear, discussing the
difference between the reactions most women
have to these issues and the uncommon
Christ-centered reaction. Larson’s
observations are not only based on the
Scriptures, but also are shared with wisdom
and practical application. Each chapter
includes pertinent quotes and Bible verses,
along with questions to provoke thought and
discussion. Readers will be encouraged and
their lives enriched by Larson’s wise and
practical concepts."

26 Beautiful One Liners
You may have already seen this list - but many of the
women in your church may not have. It's a great list of
maxims resembling a modern day Proverbs - plus each one
is easy to remember. Distribute the list at your next
meeting, retreat or your own newsletter if you have
one. Or, copy each line down on a separate piece of
paper, have each lady pick one out of the "hat" and read
it in front of a small group. This could also be a
great conversation starter at a coffee as the women
share which one(s) they most relate to. It's fun and
instructional at the same time.
1. Give God what’s right, not what's left.
2. Man's way leads to a hopeless end-- God's way leads
to endless hope.
3. A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing.
4. He who kneels before God can stand before anyone.
5. In the sentence of life, the devil may be a comma--
but never let him be the period.
6. Don't put a question mark where God puts a period.
7. Don't wait for six strong men to carry you to church.
8. We don't change God's message, His message changes
us.
9. WARNING: Exposure to the Son may prevent burning.
10. Plan ahead-- It wasn't raining when Noah built the
ark.
11. Suffering from truth decay, brush up on your Bible.
12. Exercise daily-- Walk with the Lord.
13. Never give the devil a ride-- he will always want to
drive.
14. Compassion is difficult to give away because it
keeps coming back.
15. Worry is a darkroom where negatives can develop.
16. Be ye fishers of men-- you catch them, He'll clean
them.
17 God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the
called.
18. He who angers you controls you.
19. Give Satan an inch, he'll be a ruler.
20. Nothing else ruins the truth like stretching it.
21. Are you wrinkled with burden, go to church for a
faith - lift.
22. Our church is prayer-conditioned.
23. When God ordains, He sustains.
24. Most people want to serve God, but only in an
advisory position.
25. When praying, don't give God instructions-- just
report for duty.
26.
Read the Bible--It'll scare the hell out of you.

R eviews:
“So many
Christians I've spoken with recently
are weary of me-first spirituality, of
self-help sermons and insular ways of 'doing
church.' Yet much of modern evangelicalism
encourages us to attend to our own spiritual
fitness rather than directing the love of
God outward, toward others. In Beyond Me,
Kathi Macias reminds us that as Christ came
to serve so we should also serve. It is a
message the Church desperately needs to
hear."

*****
“Kathi
Macias’s Beyond Me gently reaches out to
readers and says, ‘There is more for you in
the Christian life.’ No matter where we are
on the spiritual pathway, she warmly
encourages us to keep moving forward. Her
section on the parable of the Prodigal Son,
for example, contains some of the most
insightful writing I’ve read in a long
time."

One-on-One Kid Mentoring & Vision Casting
There is a 6 year old boy
living next door who likes to act tough whenever he is
in a crowd. But one-on-one, he's a sweet kid who loves
to share and ask questions. It's the same with my kids
and yours. They may act one way in front of others, but
its when you have them alone is when you can get down to
their core being. This is their safe place where you
can gently nudge and influence them and help them set a
course for their lives. Its a time for bonding,
instilling values and preparing them for life.
It's also a time to encourage their hearts with some
vision casting. On one particular night I sat on
my youngest daughter's bed as I tucked her in for the
night. She was struggling with anxiety and being
negative in a lot of situations. She didn't like
it, but she couldn't see herself being any other way.
I told her that I and more importantly, her heavenly
Father, had faith in her ability to change. I told
her that I could even see her being the most positive
person in the world and that is what people would
remember her for. A gigantic grin spread across
her face. And she has shown improvement in this
area ever since that time.
But these treasured
conversations usually don't happen by themselves. You
either have to make the time or seize the opportunity
when it presents itself. You should also be somewhat
prepared. A list of possible questions to get the ball
rolling is below. Don't plan on covering them all in
one conversation; and some of them vary by age and
maturity. (Tip: a treat to go with the conversation is
always a great idea!).
- What worries you the most? What excites you the most?
- What makes a good movie? A bad movie? A good song? A
bad song?
- What makes a good friend?
- Who is your best friend and why?
- What strengths did God gift you with?
- What character flaw would you like to change about
yourself? About me?
- What is your favorite thing to do?
- How do you show Jesus that you love Him more than
anything else?
- What do you see yourself doing 5, 10 years from now?
How is that going to happen?
- Do you ever think about how you can make the world a
better place?
- What's the best thing that I can pray for you during
my times of prayer?

On the
Lighter Side...
There are only two things a child will share
willingly: communicable diseases and their
mother's age.
Attending a wedding for the first time, a
little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is
the bride dressed in white?" "Because white
is the color of happiness, and today is the
happiest day of her life," her mother tried
to explain, keeping it simple.
The child thought about this for a moment,
then said, "So why is the groom wearing
black?" |
